Poly APP-50 Electronic Hook Switch for Poly IP Phones, Savi and CS500 Series

The Poly APP-50 is a legacy electronic hook switch cable designed to connect compatible Poly wireless headset systems to selected Polycom and Poly IP phones. It enables remote call notification, answering and ending through the headset’s call-control button, helping users manage desk-phone calls without lifting the handset. The APP-50 was originally developed for Savi Office systems, with later HP guidance also listing support for selected CS500 and Savi configurations.

Remote Call Answer and End Control

The APP-50 transfers electronic hook-switch commands between a supported Polycom phone and compatible wireless headset base. When correctly configured, an incoming call can be answered from the headset and an active call can be ended through the same call-control button.

No Mechanical Handset Lifter Required

Electronic on-hook and off-hook control removes the need for an HL10 mechanical handset lifter on supported installations. The cable communicates directly with the phone’s headset control interface while audio is routed through the headset connection.

Designed for Savi Office Systems

Original Polycom compatibility documentation identifies the Savi Office WO100, WO200, WO300 and WO350 as the primary APP-50 headset systems. These are legacy products, so the exact base model and firmware should be checked before purchasing replacement cables.

Selected CS500 Compatibility

Later HP installation guidance lists APP-50 or APP-51 for CS500 Series systems. Documented CS500 examples include the CS510, CS520, CS530 and CS540, but compatibility should be confirmed against the exact base and telephone because the APP-51 became the later replacement cable.

Compatible Polycom SoundPoint Phones

Documented phone support includes selected SoundPoint IP 320, 330, 335, 430, 450, 550, 560, 650 and 670 models, together with the VVX 1500. SoundPoint IP 320/321 and 330/331 phones require an additional Polycom RJ-9-to-2.5 mm adapter.

Phone Configuration Required

The phone’s analogue headset setting must be changed to Plantronics Mode before electronic hook-switch control can operate. Most documented phones require SIP application version 3.1 or later and BootROM 4.1.0 or later; the SoundPoint IP 670 requires SIP application 3.0.2 or later and BootROM 4.1.0 or later.

APP-50 and APP-51 Are Different

The APP-51 replaced the APP-50 and added support for a compatible Online Indicator or busy light. The APP-50 should not be selected where OLI support is required, and the newer APP-51 is the more appropriate option for many later Poly phones and wireless headset systems.
