The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 is a lightweight and versatile zoom lens designed for Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras. Its compact 350 g design combines an STM stepping motor for fast and quiet autofocus, up to 0.5x reproduction for detailed close-up photography, a customisable control ring and an optical construction incorporating ED and aspherical elements.

Versatile 24-105mm Zoom Range

The 24-105mm focal range gives photographers considerable flexibility without requiring frequent lens changes. At 24mm, the lens is well suited to landscapes, architecture, interiors and travel photography, while the middle of the range works well for street photography and everyday subjects. Extending to 105mm provides a medium-telephoto perspective suitable for portraits, details and more distant subjects.

The lens provides a 4.375x zoom ratio, making it a useful all-purpose option when travelling light or working in situations where carrying several lenses is impractical.

Full-Frame Nikon Z-Mount Design

The NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 is designed for Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras and provides full-frame FX-format image coverage. It can also be used on compatible Nikon DX-format Z cameras, where its field of view is equivalent to approximately 36-157.5mm on a 35mm-format camera.

Lightweight Everyday Lens

Despite covering a substantial zoom range, the lens weighs only approximately 350 g and measures approximately 106.5 mm long. This compact construction makes it easy to carry throughout the day and pairs particularly well with compact Nikon Z-series mirrorless camera bodies.

Its combination of low weight and broad focal range makes it particularly suitable for travel, sightseeing and everyday walk-around photography.

Up to 0.5x Close-Up Magnification

The lens is capable of focusing as close as 0.2 m from the camera's focal plane at the 24mm and 50mm positions and 0.28 m at 105mm. Between 70mm and 105mm, it can achieve a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.5x.

This half-life-size magnification provides considerably more close-up capability than many conventional standard zoom lenses and makes the lens useful for photographing food, flowers, products and other small details.

Fast and Quiet STM Autofocus

A stepping motor, or STM, drives the autofocus system and is designed to provide fast, accurate and quiet focusing. The quiet operation is particularly useful when recording video, where unwanted lens-motor noise could otherwise be captured by the camera's microphone.

The lens also uses an internal focusing system, meaning only the internal lens groups move during focusing.

Designed for Photo and Video

The combination of a broad zoom range, quiet STM autofocus and customisable control ring makes the lens useful for both still photography and video production. The control ring can be assigned to functions such as manual focus, aperture, exposure compensation or ISO sensitivity on compatible cameras.

Selected Nikon cameras can also use Nikon's Hi-Res Zoom function to extend the apparent zoom range during compatible video recording without the normal resolution loss associated with conventional digital zoom.

ED and Aspherical Lens Elements

The optical design consists of 12 elements arranged in 10 groups. This includes one Extra-low Dispersion glass element and two aspherical elements designed to help control chromatic aberration, distortion and other optical imperfections across the zoom range.

Nikon's Super Integrated Coating is also used to help reduce flare and ghosting and maintain contrast and colour reproduction under a variety of lighting conditions.

Rounded Seven-Blade Diaphragm

A seven-blade rounded diaphragm helps produce smooth-looking out-of-focus areas when photographing subjects against softer backgrounds. This is particularly useful for portraits and close-up photography when working toward the telephoto end of the zoom range.

67 mm Filter Thread

The front of the lens accepts standard 67 mm screw-in filters. Compatible polarising, neutral-density and protective filters can therefore be attached directly to the lens according to the photographer's requirements.

Dust- and Drip-Resistant Design Considerations

Nikon has designed the lens with consideration for dust- and drip-resistant performance, helping make it better suited to outdoor and travel photography. Nikon notes that complete resistance to dust and water is not guaranteed under all conditions, so appropriate care should still be taken when working in challenging environments.

No Built-In Optical VR

The NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 does not incorporate its own optical Vibration Reduction system. When paired with a compatible Nikon Z camera featuring in-body image stabilisation, stabilisation may instead be provided by the camera body.
