Designed Specifically for the Nikon ZR

The ME-D10 is designed to connect directly to the digital accessory shoe on the Nikon ZR. The digital connection carries audio data while also supplying power to the microphone, resulting in a clean setup without the need for a separate microphone cable or internal microphone battery.

Nikon currently lists the ZR as the compatible camera for the ME-D10. It should not be assumed to work with other Nikon cameras simply because they feature a conventional accessory or hot shoe.

32-Bit Float Audio Recording

When connected to the Nikon ZR, the ME-D10 supports audio recording at 48 kHz/32-bit float as well as conventional 48 kHz/24-bit recording. The expanded dynamic range of 32-bit float recording provides additional flexibility when working with audio that contains large changes in volume and can make level adjustment during post-production easier.

This is particularly useful for unpredictable recording environments such as interviews, documentaries, events and location filming where sound levels may change rapidly.

PURE Mode for Natural Sound

PURE mode is designed to capture the sound of the scene as naturally as possible. It provides a frequency response of 40 Hz to 20 kHz and is suited to applications such as musical performances, environmental sound, ambience and field recordings where creators want greater flexibility when processing the audio later.

FOCUS Mode for Clearer Voice Capture

FOCUS mode is optimised for human speech and provides a frequency response of 90 Hz to 20 kHz. It is particularly useful for interviews, product presentations, live streaming and other situations where speech intelligibility is more important than capturing the complete low-frequency ambience of the surrounding environment.

Three Selectable Pickup Directions

The ME-D10 provides three pickup-direction settings directly on the microphone. FRONT prioritises sound arriving from in front of the camera, REAR allows sound to be captured from behind the camera, and ALL provides omnidirectional pickup around the microphone.

This allows the same microphone to adapt to different production requirements without having to replace or reposition the microphone for every recording situation.

Front Pickup for Subjects and Interviews

The FRONT setting is useful when the main sound source is positioned in front of the camera, such as an interview subject, presenter, performer or other on-camera subject.

Rear Pickup for Camera-Side Commentary

The REAR setting prioritises sound from behind the camera. This can be useful for camera operators, presenters or creators who want to record commentary while remaining behind the ZR.

Omnidirectional Pickup

The ALL setting captures sound from around the microphone rather than prioritising only the front or rear. This makes it useful when recording environmental ambience, group conversations or situations where sound originates from several directions.

Built-In Shock Mount

The microphone incorporates its own shock-mount mechanism to help reduce vibration noise transferred from the camera body. This helps isolate the microphone from small movements and handling vibrations during handheld filming and other mobile shooting situations.

Clear Recording Status Indicators

Large status lamps are positioned at both the front and rear of the microphone so recording information can be monitored whether the operator is positioned in front of or behind the camera.

A dedicated LED brightness switch allows the status lamps to be set to High, Low or Off according to the production environment.

No Separate Battery Required

The ME-D10 receives operating power directly from the Nikon ZR through the digital accessory shoe. This removes the need to monitor or replace a separate microphone battery and helps simplify camera preparation before filming.

Power to the microphone is controlled by the camera and ends when the ZR is switched off or enters the relevant standby state.

Cable-Free Digital Connection

Because audio and power are transmitted through the digital accessory shoe, no separate 3.5 mm microphone cable is required. This creates a cleaner camera setup with fewer cables around the camera body and reduces the risk of an external microphone cable becoming disconnected during filming.

Included Wind Muff

A dedicated wind muff is supplied with the ME-D10 and can be fitted over the pickup section to help reduce unwanted wind noise when recording outdoors.
