The Nikon ACTION 16x50 Binoculars are high-magnification Porro-prism binoculars designed for observing distant wildlife, landscapes, sporting events and other outdoor subjects. Combining powerful 16x magnification with large 50 mm objective lenses, Nikon multilayer-coated optics and a wide 60.8° apparent field of view, they provide detailed, high-contrast views of distant subjects. A durable aluminium-alloy body, protective rubber armouring, central focusing system and adjustable turn-and-slide eyecups provide reliable and comfortable operation during extended outdoor observation.

Powerful 16x Magnification

The ACTION 16x50 provides fixed 16x magnification, allowing distant subjects to appear substantially closer than they would through lower-powered binoculars. This makes the binoculars particularly useful for observing wildlife across open areas, distant scenery and sporting events where additional reach and fine detail are important.

Because image movement becomes more noticeable at higher magnification, users may benefit from mounting the binoculars on a tripod during longer viewing sessions.

Large 50 mm Objective Lenses

The 50 mm objective lenses provide substantial light-gathering capability while supporting the high 16x magnification. The optical configuration provides a 3.1 mm exit pupil and a relative brightness value of 9.6.

This combination is designed primarily for detailed long-distance viewing while maintaining a manageable binocular form factor.

Wide 60.8° Apparent Field of View

Nikon classifies the ACTION 16x50 as a wide-field model. It provides a real angular field of view of 4.2° and an apparent field of view of 60.8°, calculated according to the ISO 14132-1 standard.

At a distance of 1,000 m, the binoculars provide a viewing width of approximately 73 m, helping users locate and follow distant subjects despite the powerful 16x magnification.

Nikon Multilayer-Coated Optics

Nikon applies multilayer coatings to the optical surfaces to improve light transmission and reduce unwanted reflections. This helps produce clear, high-contrast images with natural-looking colours when viewing landscapes, wildlife and other distant subjects.

Traditional Porro Prism Design

The ACTION 16x50 uses a classic Porro prism optical configuration. Its offset objective lenses provide strong depth perception and an immersive three-dimensional view, while the traditional binocular shape provides a broad and stable grip.

Central Focusing System

A large central focusing wheel allows both optical channels to be focused simultaneously. Its accessible position makes it easy to make precise adjustments when switching between subjects at different distances.

The minimum focusing distance is approximately 8 m, allowing the binoculars to be used for moderately close subjects as well as long-distance observation.

Turn-and-Slide Eyecups

The fixed-magnification ACTION series uses turn-and-slide rubber eyecups with multiple click positions. These allow users to adjust the distance between their eyes and the eyepieces and return to a preferred position during subsequent viewing sessions.

The ACTION 16x50 provides 13 mm of eye relief. Nikon specifically excludes this model from the long-eye-relief designation applied to the other fixed-magnification ACTION models, so eyeglass wearers should confirm that the 13 mm eye relief is suitable for their individual requirements.

Durable Aluminium-Alloy Construction

The binocular body is manufactured from aluminium alloy for structural strength and is covered with textured rubber armouring. The rubber exterior provides additional resistance to everyday bumps and knocks while also improving grip during outdoor use.

Adjustable Interpupillary Distance

The distance between the eyepieces can be adjusted from approximately 56 to 72 mm, allowing users to align the binoculars with the spacing between their eyes for a comfortable single circular image.

Optional Tripod Mounting

The ACTION 16x50 is compatible with Nikon's optional TRA-2 and TRA-3 tripod adapters. A tripod can be particularly useful with the 16x model because high magnification makes small hand movements more visible in the image.

The tripod and tripod adapter are optional accessories and are not included in Nikon's standard ACTION 16x50 package.
