Motorola MA2 Wireless Car Adapter for Android Auto
The Motorola MA2 is a wireless Android Auto adapter designed to convert a compatible vehicle's factory-fitted wired Android Auto connection into a convenient wireless connection. Wireless Android Auto
The MA2 eliminates the need to connect a compatible Android phone to the vehicle with a USB cable each time Android Auto is used. It connects to the vehicle's existing Android Auto USB interface and establishes the wireless link required to run Android Auto on the vehicle's compatible infotainment display.
Engineered by Google
Motorola describes the MA2 as engineered by Google using exclusive licensed bridge technology. This is designed to provide a seamless, wired-like Android Auto experience while allowing ongoing Android Auto updates to be delivered through the Android Auto ecosystem.
5GHz Wi-Fi Media Transmission
The adapter uses 5GHz Wi-Fi for wireless Android Auto media transmission. The higher-frequency wireless connection provides the data link required for Android Auto applications, navigation, audio and other compatible content to operate through the vehicle's infotainment system.
Multipoint Two-Phone Connectivity
Multipoint functionality allows two compatible phones to be paired with the MA2. Drivers sharing the same vehicle can switch between paired phones using the device button, reducing the need to repeatedly remove and recreate pairings when different drivers use the vehicle.
Automatic Bluetooth Connection
Bluetooth is used to establish the connection process between the smartphone and adapter. Once initial setup has been completed, the MA2 is designed to reconnect automatically during subsequent use without requiring the phone to be manually paired each time.
Dedicated On/Off Switch
A physical on/off switch provides direct control over the adapter. This is particularly useful in vehicles where the Android Auto USB port remains powered after the vehicle has been switched off, helping prevent unwanted phone connections and unnecessary power consumption.
Detachable USB Connectivity
Unlike an adapter with a permanently attached cable, the MA2 uses a USB-C connection and detachable cable. Both USB-C to USB-A and USB-C to USB-C cables are included, allowing the adapter to connect to compatible vehicles with either type of Android Auto USB interface.
Simple Setup
Setup involves connecting the MA2 to the vehicle's Android Auto USB port and pairing a compatible smartphone via Bluetooth. Once configured, wireless Android Auto can launch through the adapter without connecting the phone directly to the vehicle with a cable.
Vehicle and Smartphone Compatibility
The MA2 is intended for vehicles that already support factory-fitted Android Auto through USB. Motorola states that most vehicle makes and models with USB-only Android Auto support will work, although compatibility ultimately depends on the vehicle manufacturer's Android Auto implementation. A compatible Android smartphone with wireless Android Auto support and an active data plan is also required.
