The ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U LITE is a slim external DVD and CD writer designed for notebooks and desktop computers without a built-in optical drive. It connects through USB 2.0, draws power directly from the USB connection and supports DVD writing at up to 8X and CD writing at up to 24X.

Portable External Optical Drive

Measuring 20 mm high and weighing approximately 250 g, the drive is easy to carry between home, office and mobile work environments. Its compact design provides access to physical software, music, video and data discs without installing an internal optical drive.

Read and Write CDs and DVDs

The SDRW-08D2S-U LITE supports common recordable and rewritable CD and DVD formats, including single-layer and dual-layer media. It can be used to install compatible disc-based software, play supported media, create data discs and back up files to optical media.

M-DISC Archival Support

Compatible units manufactured from January 2017 onwards support DVD+R M-DISC media. M-DISC is designed for long-term archival applications and can be used for important photographs, documents and other data when combined with genuine compatible media and appropriate storage conditions.

USB-Powered Operation

The drive receives its power through the USB connection, so a separate mains adapter is not normally required. Its USB 2.0 Type-A interface supports straightforward connection to compatible computers with an available powered USB port.

Windows and Mac Compatibility

ASUS lists support for Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 11 and macOS X 10.6 or later. Operating-system support for DVD playback, disc encryption and burning features may depend on suitable third-party or bundled software.
